Discover True North Kitchen Bar

True North Kitchen Bar on 159 Bridge St #1040, Weymouth, MA 02191, United States, has quickly become one of my favorite spots for casual dining with a twist of sophistication. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting without feeling pretentious. The exposed brick walls, warm lighting, and an open kitchen create a vibe that is both relaxed and vibrant. During my first visit, I immediately noticed how attentive the staff was-someone checked in frequently without ever feeling intrusive, which made the experience feel personal.

The menu at this diner strikes a perfect balance between comfort food and innovative dishes. For instance, the lobster mac and cheese is indulgent without being overwhelming, and the locally sourced seasonal salads highlight fresh ingredients that are clearly selected with care. On a typical Friday night, the bar area fills with locals enjoying craft cocktails, while the dining area is lively with families and friends. It’s a rare combination where both the bar and food menu shine without one overshadowing the other.

I had the chance to speak with the head chef, who shared that the kitchen prioritizes sourcing ingredients from local farms and fisheries. This commitment is evident in every bite-the textures, flavors, and presentation all reflect a thoughtful approach. In fact, a recent review by the Boston Globe praised True North Kitchen Bar for “bringing farm-to-table dining to Weymouth with a casual, yet refined touch,” highlighting the chef’s expertise in balancing flavors that appeal to a wide audience.

One thing that stood out during my visits was the process behind their seasonal menu updates. The team studies customer feedback, seasonal availability, and culinary trends to craft new dishes every few months. For example, last fall, the roasted pumpkin ravioli became a crowd favorite after a series of tastings and adjustments based on guest reactions. This iterative approach demonstrates not just creativity, but a commitment to providing a consistently high-quality dining experience.

For anyone looking to explore the drink offerings, the mixologists at True North Kitchen Bar have an impressive understanding of both classic cocktails and contemporary trends. They recently introduced a series of cocktails using local spirits and bitters, which pairs beautifully with the small plates menu. A report from the Massachusetts Restaurant Association indicates that restaurants focusing on local sourcing and craft beverages see higher customer satisfaction, which aligns with my own experience here-the drinks complement the meals rather than overpower them.

The location itself, tucked in the heart of Weymouth, makes it easy to access while still maintaining a sense of cozy exclusivity. Parking is convenient, and the layout of the restaurant encourages conversation and casual socializing. I’ve visited during brunch, dinner, and even weekday lunches, and each experience feels uniquely curated yet consistently reliable. The reviews online echo this sentiment, with patrons frequently praising both the atmosphere and the attentive service.

True North Kitchen Bar also invests in training its staff, which is evident in their ability to explain menu items in detail and offer pairing suggestions without hesitation. This level of expertise builds trust and encourages diners to try something new. Additionally, local food bloggers and culinary influencers have featured the restaurant in recent months, further cementing its reputation as a trusted dining destination in Weymouth.

Whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner, a weekend brunch, or just drinks at the bar, the experience at True North Kitchen Bar combines thoughtful culinary craftsmanship with an approachable, friendly environment. The dedication to sourcing, menu innovation, and customer experience makes it stand out among other restaurants in the area, ensuring that every visit feels both familiar and exciting.

  • Food is always great at True North! If it’s your first time going, definitely get the Detroit style pizza, the owner comes from Detroit and makes it authentically! Otherwise, the fried chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese, pasta dishes, and chip and dip app are awesome!

  • We had a large group there for brunch on a Sunday and it was fantastic! The place seems like a hidden gem. It wasn’t very crowded and the food was excellent! We’ll definitely go there!

  • True North Kitchen is an absolute gem! The food is a solid 10/10 and the hospitality? Easily an 11/10. The fried shrimp is hands down the best on the South Shore—perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. Honestly, everything we’ve tried here has been top notch. You can tell they put real care into every dish. We can’t wait to come back and try the pizza next. If you’re in the area and not a regular yet, you’re seriously missing out!

  • After a long drive from Toronto to the outskirts of Boston, you want nothing more than to enjoy good food, good service and somewhere to relax. True North is all of them with bells on. The staff could not have been friendlier. The food, all of it was fresh, hot and delicious, the portions were huge and the drinks were well made, local and reasonably priced. If you find yourself in the birthplace of Dunkin Doughnuts, pay True North a visit, you won't be disappointed.

  • My husband and I, plus two other couples spent a delightful evening together at True North last night. We took advantage of the Two for Tuesday menu and we were not disappointed! We had reservations and when we arrived our table was ready for us. Kayleigh, our server, was by our side and took our drink orders and answered all our questions. She remained attentive and professional throughout the evening. I ordered the Papi’s Punch which was such an appropriate drink for October. The food was not only amazing but the portions were so generous. Kudos to the chef!!! We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back soon …

  • Ate here on Saturday night and it was delicious! We called around 5 to make a last minute reservation for 6:30 and we’re easily accommodated. Sat quickly when we arrived. The place isn’t too large, but they do have a large bar with seating as well. There’s a parking lot which is kind of tight but they have an overflow lot across the street as well! The place was loud with the B’s game on but not to the point where we couldn’t hear each other talk! We ordered the fried pickles and home made potato chips with caramelized onion dip to start. Both were delicious! Batter on the pickles was good, not too thick or too think and the buffalo ranch dipping sauce is what makes it! The homemade potato chips were thin, crispy, and salty and the onion dip was rich but not overpowering with onion flavor. My boyfriend ordered the burger of the month with chorizo and chiles which he said was delicious and cooked just as he ordered. And I got the Detroit style pepperoni pizza. I’ve never had Detroit style, but I loved this! The crispy, cheesy crust was my favorite part. The sauce was slightly spicy, slightly sweet on top, the pepperoni was salty and the dough was soft and chewy. 10/10! Waitress was quick and funny too!

  • True North serves up True Dishes… Glad we had reservations, since the bar & resto was full…this was a good sign. Seated right away, we acclimated ourselves within the locals and immediately felt, as first timers, this was the place to be. You could tell all of the folks here were regulars enjoying their time – whether drinks, apps, or a main meals. Truly, we were looking forward to the experience- and it did not disappoint. Starting off with calamari and french fries apps, we were surprised how well-balanced these two turned out – hot, crunchy, perfect amount of heat (you’d be surprised how often this is off-point) - it really set the stage for our mains. And, those did not disappoint… French Onion Short Rib, Nashville Chicken Sandwich, and for our kids, the consummate Butter Pasta – each one of these dishes were delicious as hoped for. Having lived in Nashville for three years, this hot chicken sandwich lived up to its name, both in heat, taste, and presentation. I would drive back to get this sandwich. This however was outdone by the Short Rib dish- well-proportioned and excellent presentation, it is a hidden gem that melts in your mouth and leaves you satisfied. And, of course, everything washed down with tasty New England IPAs. In all, a surprising find that we would include in our “out-of-the-way little gems” list. We would certainly go back to sample additional items on the menu. Satisfying, homey, and good times. You can’t ask for more.
